New wheels, same Tesla drama
Tesla is reportedly getting its Cybercab ready for an August launch, with the first rides going to employees. That’s not exactly “commercial rollout,” but it is the kind of baby step investors have been waiting for after years of robotaxi promises.
Why this matters
The Cybercab is Tesla’s big bet that the company can turn autonomous driving into a money machine instead of just a feature on a car. If the rollout starts with staff shuttles, that usually means Tesla is trying to prove the system in a controlled environment before it lets the rest of the world take the wheel.
The investor read
This is the classic Tesla pattern: ambitious timeline, limited initial launch, then a very loud debate about whether it’s genius or vaporware. If the company can show the Cybercab actually working in real life, even in a narrow employee-only setup, it gives the bull case a fresh shot of caffeine.
Big picture: the robotaxi dream is still in the “show me” phase, but Tesla is at least showing up to the starting line.
