Rocket science, but make it defense
Rocket Lab has spent years selling the idea that it’s more than a cute little rocket company. Now it’s showing investors the receipts: HASTE, its hypersonic test launch vehicle, is helping the Pentagon run missions that look a lot less like sci-fi and a lot more like recurring government business.
Why investors should care
This is the kind of contract mix that can change the story. Consumer-ish space names can be feast-or-famine, but defense work tends to come with a slower, steadier drumbeat of spending — and a lot less drama than waiting for the next launch to not explode.
For RKLB, that means:
- More visibility into revenue beyond one-off launch wins
- A bigger defense and national security footprint
- A business model that starts looking less like a moonshot and more like an actual enterprise
The bigger picture
Rocket Lab’s pitch is getting clearer: launch is only one piece of the puzzle. If HASTE keeps turning into a Pentagon workhorse, investors may start valuing RKLB more like a defense-tech platform than a pure space-stock gamble.
Big picture: the rockets are still cool, but the boring government contracts might be what make the stock interesting.
