New beverage, new angle
Edible Garden is trying to stretch beyond the usual produce playbook. The company signed a memorandum of understanding with Square Roots Urban Growers to jointly develop clean-label, ready-to-drink functional beverages — think drinks aimed at the wellness crowd that wants a little more than plain water and a little less than a chemistry set.
Why this matters
For investors, the headline isn’t that a deal got signed; it’s that Edible Garden is testing a category that can potentially carry better branding and margin than commodity produce. Functional beverages are crowded, sure, but they’re also the kind of shelf-space game where a good story can matter almost as much as the ingredients.
Square Roots brings some extra name recognition too, thanks to co-founders Kimbal Musk and Tobias Peggs. That doesn’t guarantee the drinks will fly off shelves, of course. But it does add a bit of credibility and startup-energy sparkle to the partnership.
The big picture
This is still an MOU, not a blockbuster revenue announcement. So don’t treat it like the company just found the golden ticket. But it does signal that Edible Garden is hunting for growth in adjacent categories where it can package its brand into something potentially more scalable.
Big picture: investors now get to watch whether this turns into a real product pipeline — or just another press-release-sized sip.
