The plot twist
Michael Saylor’s Strategy did the classic “buy the rumor, sell the… actually, sell the stock” move last week, unloading $2 billion of equity and using none of it to scoop up more Bitcoin. Meanwhile, its stash stayed frozen at 840,447 BTC — basically a giant digital dragon hoard just sitting there.
Bitcoin was busy ignoring the drama
If you were waiting for BTC to wobble because Strategy blinked, nope. Bitcoin posted the largest weekly dollar gain in its history, which is a pretty obnoxious flex considering the company most associated with corporate Bitcoin maximalism was on the sidelines.
Why investors should care
This is less about one trade and more about the weird little ecosystem around Strategy:
- When Strategy sells stock, it can signal room to keep funding its Bitcoin strategy later.
- When it doesn’t buy Bitcoin, traders start squinting at whether the pace of accumulation is slowing.
- And when Bitcoin rips anyway, it reminds everyone that Strategy is a leveraged-ish proxy, not the whole game.
Big picture: Strategy’s capital raises can make headlines, but Bitcoin still gets to be Bitcoin — moody, massive, and completely uninterested in your narrative arc.
