Cautious mode: still on
German stocks were having one of those “technically up, emotionally flat” mornings. The DAX edged higher, but investors clearly weren’t in the mood to sprint — they were more like people checking the weather app before leaving the house.
Nvidia is the elephant in the room
A lot of the hesitation came from waiting on Nvidia’s earnings update. When a chip giant like that is about to talk, markets tend to act like everyone’s sitting in the front row of the theater, waiting for the plot twist.
Oil took some pressure off
One thing helping the mood: oil prices slipped as hopes grew that the Strait of Hormuz could reopen without more drama. That matters because lower oil can cool inflation fears, which is basically market code for “maybe the central banks won’t have to keep being the fun police.”
- Lower oil = less inflation anxiety
- Less inflation anxiety = a slightly calmer equity tape
- Calmer equity tape = the DAX can wobble upward without much conviction
Big picture: this wasn’t a breakout move — just a market breathing a small sigh of relief while it waits for the next big Nvidia-shaped clue.
