Ford’s energy house gets a new boss
Ford Motor just handed the keys to its Ford Energy unit to Dave Carroll, who’s set to take over on August 31st. He’s coming over from ENGIE North America, where he was CEO, so this is less “promote from within” and more “bring in an operator who’s seen the energy jungle before.”
Why you should care
Ford Energy isn’t the flashy part of the business that gets all the TV ads and Super Bowl attention. But it sits close to the company’s electric vehicle and battery ambitions — aka the stuff Ford needs to get right if it wants EVs to stop being a science project and start acting like a business.
Lisa Drake, who’s been with Ford for 32 years, is retiring at year-end. Her résumé reads like a greatest-hits album of Ford operations:
- product development
- powertrain engineering
- purchasing
- manufacturing operations
- EV and battery industrialization
That’s a lot of institutional memory walking out the door, which is usually the kind of thing investors notice when they’re thinking about execution risk.
Big picture
Leadership changes like this rarely move the stock on their own, but they can hint at where management thinks the pressure points are. In Ford’s case, the message is pretty clear: the company still wants more discipline — and maybe a little more energy expertise — in the EV and infrastructure side of the house.
