
Quantum meets chipmaking
Xanadu Quantum Technologies is widening its collaboration with Mitsubishi Chemical, and this time it’s got a little government muscle behind it. The two companies are pushing ahead on semiconductor fabrication research using quantum computing algorithms, with Canadian and Japanese innovation programs helping fund the next phase.
Why this matters
Think of EUV lithography like the ultra-fussy cooking show of chip manufacturing: one tiny mistake and the whole dish is ruined. Xanadu says the partnership builds on earlier work simulating that process, which could help improve next-gen semiconductor fabrication. If that sounds niche, it is—but niche is where a lot of the value in quantum computing may eventually hide.
The investor angle
For Xanadu, this is less about a single blockbuster product launch and more about credibility. Partnerships like this can do a few things at once:
- show the tech is useful outside of slide decks
- deepen ties with industrial customers and research ecosystems
- keep the quantum story alive while the sector is still very much in the “promising but please be patient” phase
Big picture: Xanadu isn’t saying it’s cracked quantum supremacy over coffee break. But it is showing up in the places where future demand could come from, and that’s how these stories often start.
