New market, same checkout hustle
Shopify is taking its Shop Pay Installments playbook overseas, launching the buy-now-pay-later option in Australia with Affirm powering the backend. In plain English: shoppers get another way to split payments, and Shopify gets to make its checkout button even more useful.
Why this matters
This isn’t just a cute feature drop. Payments are one of those boring-on-purpose products that can become very not boring when they make the shopping experience smoother. If more buyers trust Shop Pay at checkout, Shopify can deepen merchant loyalty and potentially keep more transactions inside its ecosystem.
The Affirm angle
Affirm is the engine under the hood here, which means the two companies are still tightening a global partnership that already reached the US, Canada, and the UK. Australia adds another flag on the map, and for investors that’s a sign the relationship is still expanding rather than fading into corporate conference-call wallpaper.
Big picture: Shopify keeps trying to turn checkout from a one-click convenience into a full-blown moat. And in ecommerce, moats are basically the closest thing to a cheat code.
