Still growing, still carrying more weight
Genius Sports is doing the classic “business is great, balance sheet is a little less fun” routine. The company said it posted a second straight strong quarter, beating its own estimates on revenue and adjusted EBITDA.
That matters because for companies like this, the market usually wants to see two things at once: growth that doesn’t blink and profits that actually show up. On that front, Genius is checking boxes.
The catch: debt is doing a bigger cameo
The less glamorous part of the story is leverage. Management said the balance sheet is now more heavily levered thanks to the Legend buyout. In plain English: the company bought something meaningful, and now it has to live with the debt hangover.
That doesn’t automatically mean trouble. But it does mean investors will be watching whether the business can keep converting growth into cash instead of just vibes and slide decks.
Guidance is the real tell
The company also guided for:
- Revenue around $1.005 billion to $1.025 billion
- Adjusted EBITDA in the $285 million to $295 million range
That’s the part that gives the stock a reason to stay interesting. If Genius can keep hitting those numbers, the market may be willing to forgive a bit of leverage. If not, the debt starts looking less like a strategic move and more like a very expensive souvenir.
Big picture: this is still a growth story, but now it’s one with a credit card bill attached. Investors love the first part. The second part? Not so much.
