FDA says: we’ll take a look
Alvotech just got a key paperwork win: the FDA accepted its biologics license application for AVT80 for review. That means the agency is officially rolling up its sleeves and looking at the company’s proposed biosimilar to Entyvio, aka vedolizumab.
Why this isn’t just alphabet soup
Biosimilars live and die by regulatory momentum. An acceptance for review doesn’t mean approval — this is not the biotech equivalent of getting the trophy — but it does mean AVT80 cleared an important gate and the clock is now ticking.
For Alvotech, the twist is the subcutaneous presentation. That matters because a shot you can give under the skin can be a more convenient option than an infusion, and convenience can be a real commercial edge if the data and label cooperate.
Big picture
If everything keeps moving in the right direction, AVT80 could broaden Alvotech’s biosimilar ambitions beyond just “we have a candidate” and into “we have a path.” For investors, this is the kind of regulatory step that can quietly move the odds — and in biotech, odds are the whole game.
