Deal closed, now the fun part
Equinix has officially completed the acquisition of atNorth, a Nordic data center developer and operator with a portfolio built for high-density colocation and custom facilities. Translation: it’s buying more real estate for the internet to live in, and doing it in a part of the world where demand for power, cooling, and compute is only getting louder.
Why you should care
If you own EQIX, this isn’t just a trophy purchase. Data centers are basically the land rush of the AI age, and Equinix wants more land, more capacity, and more optionality. The company already sells the digital plumbing that keeps cloud, enterprise, and AI workloads connected; adding atNorth helps deepen that moat in the Nordics, where cheaper power and cooler air can make the economics a lot friendlier.
The not-so-secret strategy
This deal also shows Equinix isn’t content to just clip rent checks on existing facilities. It’s still playing offense, using partnerships and acquisitions to extend its platform into growth pockets that can matter for years, not quarters. In other words: same old data-center giant, but with a fresh shopping cart.
Big picture: if AI keeps acting like an energy-hungry teenager, the companies that own the infrastructure underneath it may keep getting the last laugh.
