A power-hungry deal
Entergy is reportedly in the middle of a pretty eye-popping agreement: a 2.88-gigawatt gas-fired plant plus a large battery energy storage system for a Louisiana data center campus. That’s not a little side project. That’s “this campus is going to need a lot of juice” territory.
Why this matters for your portfolio
Data centers are the new gold rush, except instead of pickaxes, everyone’s chasing electrons. If Entergy can lock in long-term infrastructure buildout around a big campus, that can mean durable demand, more regulated or contracted returns, and a clearer growth path than the usual utility treadmill.
The catch
Big projects sound great until you remember they come with big capital spending, long timelines, and plenty of regulatory and execution risk. So yes, the opportunity is real — but so is the chance of delays, cost overruns, or the occasional “this got more complicated than everyone hoped” moment.
Big picture: utilities with the right geography and grid access are suddenly sitting in the same room as AI and cloud giants. That’s a very different dinner party than the one they used to attend.
