New pipes, bigger ambitions
Cipher Digital isn’t just talking about growth — it’s building the plumbing for it. The company said Thursday it has started developing lateral pipelines across multiple sites to connect its facilities with nearby natural gas supplies.
That might sound about as thrilling as a utility bill, but here’s the punchline: the setup could support up to 2.5 gigawatts of on-site power generation. For a company trying to expand and lease industrial-scale data centers for high-performance computing, that’s the kind of infrastructure that can turn “nice idea” into “actual business.”
Why investors care
In data centers, power is the bottleneck. No juice, no servers. No servers, no revenue. So when Cipher says it’s working with power providers to build out the generation needed before the end of 2027, that’s basically management saying: we’re trying to remove the one thing that can choke this party.
The stock got a bonus tailwind
The broader move in crypto and risk assets helped too. Bitcoin popped to $80,000, and Fed Gov. Christopher Waller’s steady-rates comments gave speculative names a little extra oxygen. Translation: the market was in a risk-on mood, and Cipher got to ride the wave.
Big picture: this isn’t just a vibes trade. If Cipher can actually secure the power and keep scaling, it could strengthen the company’s case as a serious data-center landlord in one of the hottest infrastructure races on the market.
