A very un-quiet quarter
Planet Labs came out swinging with fiscal second-quarter results for the period ended July 31, 2026, and the headline was hard to miss: record revenue of $116.1 million. That’s 58% growth from a year ago, which is not exactly the kind of number you file under “meh.”
Why investors care
This isn’t just about one shiny revenue print. Management said Planet delivered its fourth straight quarter of meeting or exceeding the Rule of 40, that favorite SaaS-style scoreboard where growth plus profitability is supposed to show whether the business is getting healthier, not just louder.
For a company that sells Earth imagery and insights, that matters because the story has always been some mix of “cool tech” and “okay, but can it become a real business?” This quarter leans harder toward the second answer.
The bigger picture
If you’re holding PL, the key question is whether this is a one-quarter victory lap or the start of a more durable beat-and-raise rhythm. Record revenue is great, but Wall Street usually wants to know whether the company can keep the rocket pointed up without torching margins on the way.
Big picture: Planet is still in the prove-it phase, but a 58% growth quarter with four Rule-of-40 wins in a row is a lot more persuasive than another glossy deck full of orbital vibes.
