A bullish business, a less-bullish price target
Planet Labs is apparently having one of those “the product is working, but the spreadsheet people are nervous” moments. Craig-Hallum says the company is on a roll in defense and intelligence, which is the kind of steady, mission-critical demand investors like to hear.
But the target got cut anyway
Here’s the wrinkle: the firm also slashed its price target by more than 28%. That usually means the analyst still sees a story worth following, just not at the same sticker price as before. In other words, the business momentum may be holding up, but expectations got dragged back to earth.
Why you should care
For Planet Labs, defense and intelligence contracts matter because they can be sticky, recurring, and less mood-swingy than consumer tech. If that part of the business keeps building, it can help the company look more like a serious data platform and less like a space-company science project.
- Stronger defense/intelligence demand = better visibility
- Lower target = Wall Street is still haircutting optimism
- Investors will now be watching whether revenue growth can catch up to the hype
Big picture: Planet Labs may be winning more credibility in mission-critical markets, but analysts clearly still want proof before they hand out the premium valuation parade confetti.
