GE just bought itself more control
GE Aerospace said it will acquire Consolidated Precision Products from Warburg Pincus and Berkshire Partners for $11.75 billion. Translation: GE wants more control over the boring-but-critical stuff that keeps jet engines humming and airlines flying.
Why this matters
This isn’t just a shopping spree. Castings are a key part of engine production, and GE is clearly trying to strengthen its supply chain after years of aerospace bottlenecks making everyone’s life harder than it needs to be.
For investors, the big question is whether this makes GE more resilient and more profitable over time, or whether it’s an expensive way to chase smoother operations. Either way, it signals GE is still playing offense in aerospace, not just sitting around polishing the logo.
Big picture
If this works, GE could come out with a sturdier supply chain and more leverage over production. If it doesn’t, well, that’s a very large $11.75 billion “we’ll see.”
