ERCOT just gave IREN a green light-ish
IREN says its 2GW Sweetwater Hub — that’s Sweetwater 1 and Sweetwater 2 — was conditionally included in ERCOT’s Batch Zero process as Base Load. Translation: the project is getting further into the Texas power pipeline, which matters a lot when your business model is basically "give me electricity, and I’ll turn it into AI infrastructure."
For a company like IREN, grid access isn’t just plumbing. It’s the plot. The faster these facilities can get approved and connected, the faster they can support the company’s data center buildout and whatever future revenue this giant Texas-sized energy machine is meant to unlock.
Why investors should care
The Sweetwater Hub is a big number event — 2GW is not a cute little campus with a few servers and a coffee machine. It signals scale, and scale is what investors are paying for in this AI infrastructure race.
- It strengthens the case that IREN can keep pushing its power and data-center roadmap forward.
- It adds another proof point that the company’s Texas expansion is progressing, even if the wording is still very much in bureaucrat-speak.
- It could help keep the market focused on future capacity rather than just the usual noise around Bitcoin mining and balance-sheet drama.
Big picture: IREN keeps trying to turn cheap power into a premium AI story, and every incremental grid approval makes that story a little less PowerPoint, a little more real.
