New deal, new number
IonQ just did the classic corporate move: buy something, then promptly raise the outlook. The quantum computing company said its 2026 revenue should now land between $450 million and $460 million after folding in SkyWater Technology from the July 31 closing date through year-end.
That’s not a tiny footnote. The stock jumped more than 6% in premarket trading because investors love a story where a company says, “We got bigger, and here’s the revised math.” IonQ says the combined setup expands its market opportunity and gives it more manufacturing capacity — which matters a lot when your pitch is basically “we’re building the future, please wait patiently.”
Why investors are paying attention
The company also said it’s building a shared technology roadmap with SkyWater, which sounds delightfully corporate but translates to this: IonQ wants the acquisition to help it move faster toward commercial-scale, fault-tolerant quantum computing.
A few things to watch:
- The guidance includes SkyWater only from the closing date through Dec. 31, so this is a partial-year contribution.
- IonQ excluded intercompany revenue tied to a pre-acquisition commercial agreement, which keeps the numbers cleaner than your average merger spreadsheet.
- The company is hosting an Investor Day Tuesday afternoon, so management is basically inviting everyone to come stare at the powerpoint and dream about the future.
The bigger picture
IonQ is still in the phase where every milestone gets treated like a moon landing, but the market clearly likes the combination of stronger manufacturing and a higher revenue target. Big picture: in quantum land, scale is the whole game — and IonQ just told Wall Street it may have a little more of it than expected.
