Another decade at Rogers Place
Rogers Communications and OEG Sports & Entertainment are keeping the lights on at Rogers Place for a while longer. The two said Tuesday they’ve extended their strategic partnership for another decade, which means the Edmonton Oilers will keep calling Rogers Place home through 2036.
Why this matters
For Rogers, sports naming-rights deals are the corporate equivalent of buying the fanciest jersey in the team store: pricey, yes, but it keeps your logo in front of a very loyal crowd. These partnerships are usually more about brand durability and fan-facing visibility than an immediate financial pop, so don’t expect this to suddenly turn into a hockey-shaped earnings catalyst.
Still, it does matter because long-term sponsorship agreements can signal that management is happy to keep leaning into premium Canadian sports exposure. In telecom, where growth can be a slog and customer churn is the villain in the movie, these kinds of deals help keep the brand top of mind.
The big picture
This is classic Rogers: steady, strategic, and very much in the business of making sure its name stays glued to a major sports venue. Big picture: it’s a long-term marketing commitment, not a fireworks show — but in telecom, consistency often beats flash.
