New customer, same laser drama
AeroVironment is making a familiar defense-contractor move: turn cool tech into actual revenue. The company says it secured its first international order for LOCUST, its directed-energy counter-drone system, which is basically the military version of bringing a bug zapper to a drone fight.
Why this matters
For investors, the key phrase here is first international order. That usually means the product is starting to travel beyond U.S. testing and procurement circles, which can be a nice little confidence boost for the sales pipeline.
The bigger picture
Defense tech names love a good “landed the first deal” moment because it can open the door to follow-on orders, integrations, and maybe a longer runway for the program. If LOCUST keeps turning heads overseas, AVAV gets to tell a much better story than just “we have neat lasers.”
Big picture: in defense, one order is never just one order — it’s often the opening scene.
