AMC’s latest side quest
AMC is taking another swing at turning movie theaters into event venues, this time with an exclusive live broadcast of Epic Games’ 2026 Rocket League World Championship Finals across 50 locations nationwide. Because apparently the future of the multiplex is not just movies, but also esports, concerts, and whatever else can get people to leave the couch.
Why this matters
On paper, this is a partnership-style move: AMC gets to fill seats with a live event, and Epic gets a big-screen home for a global gaming final. For AMC, the investor angle is pretty simple — every non-movie event is a chance to wring a little more revenue out of an expensive theater footprint that still needs bodies in seats.
Same screen, different crowd
This isn’t some giant balance-sheet-changing deal. But it does fit AMC’s broader playbook of using its theaters as a venue network instead of a one-trick movie machine. If the company can keep stacking these kinds of events, it could help with attendance, concession sales, and the general “please use our buildings” problem theater chains have been living with for years.
Big picture: AMC doesn’t need every experiment to be a blockbuster. It just needs enough of them to make the popcorn machine hum a little longer.
