Visa keeps poking at the crypto checkout aisle
Visa is taking another swing at stablecoins, this time by teaming up with Onchain Credit to help settle card transactions. Translation: the company is trying to make digital dollars do some of the behind-the-scenes work that traditional bank rails usually handle.
Why investors should care
This isn’t a moonshot headline about Visa becoming a crypto exchange. It’s more like Visa trying to make sure it still collects tolls if the highway changes shape. If stablecoins keep creeping into payments, Visa wants a seat at the table — and ideally a fee on the receipt.
Same playbook, new costume
The move fits Visa’s broader push to wire stablecoins into everyday spending and settlement. That matters because:
- it could make cross-border and card settlement cheaper or faster,
- it keeps Visa relevant if fintechs start experimenting around legacy rails,
- and it signals management is treating stablecoins less like a fad and more like infrastructure.
Big picture: Visa doesn’t seem interested in letting crypto reinvent payments without it. The company’s goal is pretty clear — if money is going to move onchain, Visa wants to be the person still holding the clipboard.
