Here comes the Fed again
The latest read on the Fed says the next policy tightening cycle could kick off in September, with 3 to 4 hikes expected before it wraps up around August 2027. In other words: the “higher for longer” story may be getting a sequel.
Why the market isn’t panicking yet
There’s one small comfort blanket here — the 10Y2Y yield curve still isn’t inverted. That’s important because an inversion is often the market’s way of whispering, “uh oh, something’s off.” Without that signal, traders seem to be treating the hike outlook more like background noise than a full-blown siren.
What investors should watch
If the Fed really does keep tightening, the pressure tends to show up in the usual places:
- borrowing costs for consumers and companies
- valuation multiples for growth stocks
- rate-sensitive corners like housing and banks
Big picture: the market may not be worried yet, but the Fed is still the roommate who keeps turning the thermostat up after you asked for one degree cooler.
