CEO skin in the game
Uber stock popped Friday after CEO Dara Khosrowshahi disclosed a purchase of about 141,000 shares on Thursday, worth roughly $10 million. The buy came in around $70.96 a share, which is a pretty loud way of saying: I’m not done here.
Why traders care
Insider buys aren’t magic, but they do tend to catch attention because executives usually know the business better than your favorite stock-picking podcast. In Uber’s case, the timing matters: the shares have been stuck under several key moving averages and have been trying to find some footing after a rougher stretch.
Not just a one-off
This wasn’t even Uber’s first insider flex of the month. President and COO Andrew Macdonald bought 70,000 shares on September 4th for about $5.3 million, so the C-suite is sending a fairly consistent signal that it thinks the stock is undervalued.
The big picture
The stock is still down sharply over the past year, so one insider buy won’t magically fix the chart. But when multiple top execs are buying the dip, investors tend to lean in and ask the obvious question: what do they know that the market doesn’t? Big picture: this is less a victory lap and more a confidence signal from the cockpit.
