Big spend, bigger AI appetite
Google is putting 13bn into Finland to expand its AI infrastructure footprint. Translation: the company is still in full-on “build the digital engine room” mode, and it’s not nibbling around the edges.
Why this matters
For investors, this is the classic Alphabet trade-off. More infrastructure today can mean more cloud capacity, more AI muscle, and a stronger long-term moat. But it also means the capex bill keeps growing, which is the sort of thing that makes margin hawks reach for the aspirin.
The bigger picture
This kind of spending says a lot about where the AI arms race is headed: not just chips and models, but power, land, and the unglamorous hardware that keeps the whole circus running. Big picture: if you want the AI prize, you need to bankroll the pickaxes, too.
