China just handed Novo a first
Novo Nordisk’s Wegovy picked up China’s first GLP-1 label for MASH, which is basically regulatory speak for: this drug just got a bigger lane to drive in. That matters because MASH is one of the more lucrative obesity-adjacent markets, and China is not exactly a tiny side quest.
Why investors care
The problem? The market has already spent years treating GLP-1 drugs like the next great candy aisle in pharma. So even a meaningful approval can land with a thud if traders are already worried about competition, pricing, and whether Novo can keep the growth machine humming.
The shrug heard around the tape
The stock being flat is the tell. This wasn’t bad news — it was just one more reminder that good news now has to be very good news to move Novo. In other words, the company is still winning the category, but the market has started grading on a brutal curve.
Big picture: more labels, bigger markets, same old investor question — how much of the future is already baked into the price?
