A rare kind of flex
Applied Materials is basically telling Wall Street, “We may have officially entered the billion-with-a-b twisty, expensive era.” The company expects fiscal fourth-quarter revenue of $10.25 billion, plus or minus $500 million, which works out to about 51% growth at the midpoint.
Why your portfolio should care
For chip-equipment stocks, revenue like this is the equivalent of the bartender saying the tab is already ridiculous — and somehow the group keeps ordering. Stronger spending from semiconductor makers usually means more demand for AMAT’s tools, which can be a nice little tailwind for the whole capex crowd.
The bigger picture
If Applied Materials actually lands that quarter, it would be a fresh reminder that the chip buildout story isn’t just about AI chips getting the headlines. The picks-and-shovels businesses are still getting their cut, and in this case, it could be a very chunky one.
Big picture: when the people selling shovels are booming, the gold rush is still on.
