Perdoceo’s latest class project: a deal
Perdoceo Education Corp. said it has agreed to acquire 100% of South University from South University - Member, Inc. In plain English: PRDO is adding another school to its portfolio, which could mean more students, more programs, and potentially more scale.
Why investors should care
Education rollups can be a little like buying more lanes on a highway — if you can keep traffic moving, great, but if not, you just bought yourself a bigger parking lot.
For shareholders, the big questions are the usual suspects:
- Can Perdoceo integrate South University without turning it into a bureaucratic group project?
- Does the deal improve enrollment or simply add complexity?
- And what’s the price tag, since that’s the part that usually decides whether this is a smart move or an expensive semester?
The FY26 bit matters too
Perdoceo also reaffirmed FY26, which is management’s way of saying, “We’re making a move, but we still like our homework on the full-year outlook.” That helps calm the market a bit, since acquisitions can sometimes make guidance look like it was assembled during finals week.
Big picture: PRDO is trying to grow by buying, not just by waiting for organic enrollment to do all the heavy lifting. Whether that’s accretive or just ambitious will come down to execution and the economics of the deal.
