New deal, same old race to AI
Charles Schwab’s Advisor Services arm says it’s working with Anthropic to bring Claude for Financial Advisors directly to the 16,000-plus independent RIAs it serves. In plain English: Schwab is putting an AI assistant into the hands of the people who manage other people’s money.
That might sound like a small product tweak, but in finance, little workflow upgrades can be the difference between “nice demo” and “please never leave my platform.” If Claude helps advisors prep for client meetings, draft notes, or wrangle research faster, Schwab gets another reason for advisors to stick around.
Why investors should care
This isn’t a splashy merger or a giant revenue line item — at least not yet. But it does signal that Schwab wants its advisor platform to feel more like a modern operating system and less like a filing cabinet with a login page.
Potential upside:
- better advisor retention
- more platform engagement
- a shinier tech story in a very unsexy business
Big picture
Wall Street loves to talk about AI as if it only lives in chipmakers and chatbots. But the real money often shows up in boring places like wealth management workflows, where saving a few minutes per client can snowball into a real moat. Schwab is clearly trying to make sure it doesn’t get left holding the paper statements while everyone else gets the robot assistant.
