AmEx wants a bigger seat at the money table
American Express is adding a new high-yield Business Savings account, giving business customers another place to park cash inside the AmEx ecosystem. That means more deposits, more sticky customers, and one less reason for companies to hop between different financial apps like they’re changing streaming subscriptions.
The pitch: keep everything in one place
The company says the new account is designed to help businesses earn more on deposits and manage more of their finances under one roof. And this isn’t a one-and-done product drop, either. Later this year, AmEx plans to let Graphite™ Business Cash Unlimited Card Members redeem Reward Dollars into Business Checking accounts, then roll out a payroll solution after that.
Why investors should care
This is classic wallet-share math. If AmEx can get businesses to use cards, checking, savings, rewards, and payroll all in the same system, it becomes a lot harder to leave — kind of like moving out of a house where the fridge, thermostat, and garage door all run on one app.
Big picture: AmEx is quietly building a broader financial services flywheel, and that could mean more deposits, more engagement, and a stickier business customer base over time.
