Nokia’s having a very “look at me now” morning
Nokia shares popped in Wednesday premarket as the company said more global telecom operators are moving ahead with AI-RAN trials using NVIDIA’s Aerial RAN Computer. Translation: the old telecom box maker is still trying to reinvent itself for the AI era, and Wall Street loves a good glow-up story.
The company said its AI-RAN platform has already delivered more than 20% improvements in spectral efficiency, with more software-driven gains expected in 2027 and 2028. That’s the kind of roadmap investors can squint at and think, “okay, maybe there’s more here than just dusty phone-base-station vibes.”
Not just the AI party
Nokia also said its defense unit signed an agreement with C3IA to help modernize U.K. defense operations. The work spans secure communications, private 4G and 5G, command and control, sensing, autonomous systems and edge computing — basically the corporate version of packing five suitcases for one weekend trip.
Why the stock cares
The move comes as Nokia tests a key resistance zone around $10.50. Traders love a clean breakout story, and this one has a few ingredients:
- broader market sentiment is helping
- momentum indicators are improving
- analysts still skew bullish, with fresh and recent buy calls piling in
Big picture: Nokia doesn’t need to become the next Nvidia to get a rally. It just needs enough AI-adjacent buzz, a couple of decent partnerships, and a chart that stops looking so grumpy.
