New deal, new hype
Tower Semiconductor’s stock ripped about 8% Thursday after the company said it and NewPhotonics have begun high-volume shipments of laser-integrated photonic integrated circuits. In plain English: Tower is now helping feed the AI data-center beast with chips built for faster, greener optical connections.
Why this matters
The products are aimed at data centers that need to move insane amounts of information without turning into a space heater. Current production supports speeds from 800G to 1.6T, and the companies say they’re already planning 6.4T solutions. That’s the kind of roadmap Wall Street loves to hear because it screams “more volume, more relevance, more AI adjacency.”
The bigger picture
This is not just a shiny press release with a lot of photonics jargon sprinkled on top. If Tower can keep scaling this platform, it could strengthen its position in one of the market’s favorite corners: AI infrastructure. The stock is still below its 52-week high, so traders are clearly treating this as a potential step-up, not a victory lap.
Big picture: Tower just got itself a louder seat at the AI networking table, and investors are paying attention.
