Claude just leveled up
Anthropic says its chatbot Claude is no longer just answering questions and drafting emails — it’s now leading 26% of the company’s measured AI research and development work, up from 1% in March. Think of it like the intern suddenly running a chunk of the lab, except the lab is building next-gen AI models.
The fine print matters, though: Anthropic says Claude isn’t fully autonomous. It’s working alongside humans, not replacing them outright. Still, more than 90% of the company’s AI R&D in August was at the "AI collaborates" level or higher, which is a pretty loud signal that the machine-human partnership is getting a lot more serious.
The part Nvidia investors care about
Here’s where this gets extra spicy for NVDA holders: the story also says Nvidia is considering investing as much as $10 billion in Anthropic’s potential IPO. That would tie Nvidia even tighter to one of the hottest names in AI, right as Anthropic is reportedly chasing a valuation around $2 trillion and OpenAI is playing its own mega-funding game.
Anthropic also said it had about 30,000 AI agents doing research and engineering work at once in August, and it blocked only a tiny fraction of decisions. Translation: AI is becoming a bigger worker bee inside AI companies themselves, which could keep the spending flywheel spinning for the chips, data centers, and cloud infrastructure that power it.
Big picture
This isn’t a direct Nvidia earnings update, but it’s another reminder that the AI buildout keeps feeding on itself. If Claude is doing more of the work, the companies building and financing these models may keep buying more compute — and that’s the oxygen Nvidia lives on.
