New coverage, same old biotech drama
RBC Capital Markets stepped in on Thursday and started coverage on GRAIL with a Sector Perform rating and an $84 price target. Translation: the bank sees a real market here, but it’s not exactly pounding the table like it found the next Nvidia.
Why everyone keeps circling Galleri
The bullish part of the story is pretty straightforward. GRAIL’s Galleri test is designed to spot methylation patterns linked to multiple cancers before symptoms show up. In a world where many cancers still don’t have standard screening, that’s a pretty juicy pitch.
RBC also flagged the catalyst stack ahead:
- the FDA advisory committee meeting on September 23rd
- potential FDA approval in late 2026 or early 2027
- a collaboration with Epic that could put results in front of roughly 450 health systems
The valuation headache is doing the buzzing
Here’s the part that makes investors squint: RBC thinks the opportunity is huge, but the stock still has to wade through adoption speed, cash burn, and reimbursement uncertainty. In other words, the science may be exciting, but the spreadsheet is still wearing a frown.
The bigger question is whether Galleri can move from “promising idea” to “routine screening habit” fast enough to justify the valuation. That’s the whole game here. Big picture: GRAIL has a potentially massive market, but the path there is still paved with regulatory and commercial potholes.
