Fastly’s got the mic
Fastly is stepping into Investor Day with a crowd that already looks a little excited. Shares popped nearly 15% on Monday and were still climbing premarket Tuesday, as traders tried to front-run whatever management says about the roadmap, growth, and the holy grail: margins.
The AI security angle
The company also rolled out a fresh batch of AI security tools — including AI Runtime Control, AI Firewall, and new API Security capabilities — aimed at giving customers more visibility into all the machine-generated traffic flooding their networks. Fastly said machine traffic made up more than half of its network traffic in July and August, which is a pretty wild stat and a nice way of saying the bots are absolutely moving in.
Why investors care
This is the part where the stock market stops being a vibes contest and turns into a numbers game. Fastly’s second-quarter revenue rose 23% year over year, and security revenue jumped 43%, so the company can point to some real momentum instead of just slick slide-deck energy.
That said, the stock is already flirting with consensus estimates, and analysts are split between cautious and constructive. So the big question is whether Investor Day gives you a cleaner path to growth — or just another meeting where everyone nods politely and asks about margins.
Big picture: Fastly’s making a very modern bet that AI security is the next growth lane. If it can prove customers will pay for it, today’s buzz could look less like a pop and more like the start of a rerating.
