New face in the C-suite
Wave Life Sciences said Tuesday it appointed Monika Vnuk as its chief business officer. She’ll join the executive team and take the wheel on business development and corporate development — basically, the part of the company that helps turn science into partnerships, financing options, and maybe one day revenue.
Why you should care
For a clinical-stage biotech, leadership hires can matter more than they do at a mature company. When you’re still living in the land of trials, licensing talks, and strategic partnerships, the people steering business development can have an outsized impact on the company’s odds of staying funded and finding the right collaborators.
The bigger picture
This isn’t a blockbuster drug readout or a regulatory win, so don’t expect fireworks just because there’s a new executive in town. But it does tell you Wave is keeping the corporate machine moving, and in biotech, that machine needs to hum if the science is going to get its day in the sun.
Big picture: sometimes the market gets more excited about a new molecule, but a strong dealmaker in the corner office can be just as important.
