Oman just became a bigger SLB story
SLB snagged a contract from OQ Exploration & Production to deliver the Bisat-B Expansion Production Facility in Oman. That’s not just a shiny new project announcement — it’s the kind of work that can keep a services company busy for a long stretch, because SLB is handling everything from design and engineering all the way through commissioning.
The part investors actually care about
This isn’t a quick one-and-done build. SLB will also provide four years of operations and maintenance support after the facility comes online, which is basically the corporate version of “and we’ll also stay to help assemble the furniture.” That kind of recurring work is gold for an oilfield services name because it can deepen customer ties and make revenue a little less lumpy.
A few nuggets from the deal:
- The project is expected to wrap in about 19 months
- Gross fluids-handling capacity will rise to 548,000 barrels per day
- This builds on SLB’s earlier work at Bisat-A in 2018 and the original Bisat-B facility in 2020
Why the market may shrug, but you shouldn’t
The stock may be wobbling around the session — it was down modestly in the article — but contracts like this help explain why SLB keeps showing up in energy infrastructure conversations. It’s one more reminder that the business isn’t just about drilling tools and field services; it’s also about being the adult in the room when producers need complex projects executed on time.
Big picture: in a world where energy demand keeps forcing companies to squeeze more out of existing fields, SLB’s ability to win and then operate these projects is a pretty decent moat to have.
