Another product for the crypto kitchen
Coinbase just added a new menu item: fixed-rate Bitcoin loans through Morpho Midnight. In plain English, you can now use your BTC as collateral and borrow against it without doing the emotional damage of selling your stack.
That matters because Coinbase keeps trying to become less of a simple trading app and more of a full-service crypto superstore. The more products it can stack on top of its user base, the harder it gets for customers to bounce to a competitor when the market gets spicy.
Why investors should care
This isn’t just a shiny feature update. Lending and borrowing products can deepen engagement, create more fee opportunities, and make Coinbase look a lot more like a crypto-native financial platform than a one-trick exchange.
A few things to watch:
- whether users actually adopt the product
- how risky the collateralized lending setup proves to be
- whether Coinbase keeps stitching together more on-chain and off-chain products to widen its moat
Big picture: Coinbase seems determined to turn your crypto holdings into a little financial ecosystem, not just a portfolio number you stare at and panic over.
