Prime, but make it portable
Amazon just gave its U.S. Multichannel Fulfillment sellers a shiny new toy: they can now offer fast, free Prime delivery on their own websites without paying extra for the privilege. In other words, Amazon is letting merchants borrow a little bit of that Prime glow and slap it onto their own storefronts.
Why this matters
This is classic Amazon behavior: take the thing people already love, then spread it into every corner of the internet. If you’re a seller, that could make your own site a little more competitive with the big marketplaces. If you’re an investor, it’s another reminder that Amazon’s fulfillment network isn’t just a cost center — it’s a moat with legs.
The bigger play
The more merchants lean on Amazon for fulfillment, the more Amazon becomes the plumbing under e-commerce, not just the giant mall at the center of it.
- Sellers get a more attractive checkout experience.
- Amazon gets deeper embedded in merchant operations.
- Prime’s value proposition gets pushed beyond Amazon.com itself.
Big picture: Amazon keeps finding ways to make logistics feel less like boring backend infrastructure and more like a product people actually want to buy into.
