Your porch, but make it airborne
Lowe’s is launching drone delivery with help from DoorDash and Alphabet’s Wing. In plain English: some shoppers will be able to get Lowe’s items dropped off by a drone instead of waiting for a van to crawl through traffic like it’s trapped in 2009.
For Alphabet, Wing keeps turning into one of those side projects that refuses to stay a side project. It’s not the biggest piece of the empire, but it’s another proof point that Google’s parent can keep sneaking futuristic stuff into the real world without needing a sci-fi soundtrack.
DoorDash wants more than dinner
DoorDash, meanwhile, keeps building itself into something bigger than late-night tacos. A drone delivery launch with Lowe’s adds another lane for the company, and that matters if you believe the company’s future is part logistics network, part tech platform, part “we can deliver almost anything if you squint hard enough.”
Big picture
This isn’t a revenue earthquake by itself, but it’s a useful signal: retail delivery is getting weirder, faster, and a little more Jetsons by the week. If the pilot works, it gives both Alphabet and DoorDash a story about scale, convenience, and maybe one less reason for your hammer to spend the afternoon in a warehouse.
