Prime, but make it wholesale
Amazon is giving merchants a new way to borrow a little bit of its delivery magic. The company says they can now add fast, free Prime delivery to their own websites through Amazon Supply Chain Services, with the carrot being as much as 25% off fulfillment fees.
Why this matters
This is classic Amazon: turn a perk customers already love into a platform other businesses pay to use. If merchants bite, Amazon gets another reason for sellers to stay in its ecosystem instead of shopping around like they’re at a logistics buffet.
The investor angle
A few things to watch:
- more stickiness in Amazon’s supply-chain and fulfillment business
- potential incremental revenue from third-party merchants
- a broader push to make Prime not just a consumer subscription, but a retail infrastructure layer
Big picture: Amazon keeps trying to make the delivery treadmill look a lot less like a cost center and a lot more like a moat.
