All-time highs, all-time nerves
The Nasdaq Composite is up 16.5% year to date and back at record levels, which is normally the part where everyone starts posting rocket emojis and pretending risk is dead. But this piece is basically saying: pump the brakes. When a market gets this euphoric, the shiny stuff on the surface can hide some very old-fashioned cracks underneath.
The AI money merry-go-round
The big worry here is that AI enthusiasm has started to look a bit self-referential. Companies are pouring money into the same theme, then using each other’s spending to justify even more spending. It’s less "new era of productivity" and more "we all bought tickets to the same carnival ride."
That kind of circular financing doesn’t automatically mean disaster. But it does mean the market can get wobbly fast if the narrative shifts or the money stops sloshing around the loop.
Why you should care
For investors, the scary part isn’t that stocks are up. It’s that the rally may be leaning heavily on optimism, momentum, and a very expensive faith in AI returns that haven’t fully shown up yet.
If that faith cracks, the downside could get ugly in the exact names everyone’s been crowding into. Big picture: when everyone agrees the next big thing is bulletproof, that’s usually when the floor gets a little slippery.
