Kodiak just picked a fight with a blockbuster
Kodiak Sciences dropped Phase 3 data from its DAYBREAK trial and, basically, said: our eye drug can hang with Regeneron’s Eylea. That’s not small talk. In wet age-related macular degeneration, Eylea is the heavyweight champ, so showing non-inferior vision gains is the biotech version of walking into the arena and not getting folded in 30 seconds.
Why investors suddenly care
The company said both Zenkuda (tarcocimab tedromer) and tabirafusp-ted (KSI-501) met their primary endpoints. Zenkuda also showed a 0% intraocular inflammation rate and a 0.5% cataract adverse event rate, which is exactly the kind of safety profile that can make regulators and investors sit up a little straighter.
The real catalyst is what's next
Kodiak says it plans to submit a multi-indication BLA for Zenkuda in the fourth quarter of 2026, using data from five Phase 3 studies. That means this isn’t just a one-and-done data dump; it’s the opening act for a bigger regulatory push.
- DAYBREAK and DAYLIGHT for wet AMD
- GLOW and GLOW2 for diabetic retinopathy
- BEACON for macular edema tied to retinal vein occlusion
Big picture
For biotech, good trial data is one thing. Trial data that makes your stock jump 137% is another. If Kodiak can turn this into a clean filing and keep the safety story intact, it may have just moved from “speculative story” to “serious contender.”
