From tiny stock to giant order
Volato Group woke up Monday and basically got the equivalent of a surprise stadium booking. Its Alignment Engine subsidiary secured two AI infrastructure orders worth about $1.17 billion, and the market responded by launching SOAR more than 110% higher. Not bad for a company that’s trying to turn itself into an AI infrastructure story instead of just an aviation-tech one.
Why investors are paying attention
The contracts are four-year, take-or-pay agreements with a large AI customer, which is Wall Street-speak for: the customer is on the hook whether it fully uses the capacity or not. That matters because it gives Volato something every infrastructure company craves — visibility. The deal also comes with about $133 million in contractual prepayments, including roughly $40 million due right after execution, so this isn’t just a PowerPoint-sized dream.
The Ohio plot twist
Volato said the first deployment will use AMD MI355X GPUs, with a contractual start date of Dec. 31, 2026, and a second deployment using AMD MI455X GPUs is slated for June 30, 2027. The company is building this around a planned Ohio AI campus, where it wants to bundle power, cooling, networking, and high-density GPU clusters into one neat little AI factory.
Big picture
CEO Chris Ensey called the agreements a transformational milestone, and CFO Mark Heinen said the contracts validate Volato’s bet on building against long-term customer demand. Translation: Volato is trying to trade in the chaos of the spot market for something more like a subscription business — and if the customer sticks around, that could be a pretty big upgrade.
