Europe just got a bigger Cloudflare pitch
Cloudflare is cozying up to Deutsche Telekom in a strategic partnership that hands it a bigger megaphone in Europe. Think of it as Cloudflare borrowing Deutsche Telekom’s enterprise muscle — sales, service, and distribution — to get in front of more customers who care a lot about security, resilience, and not waking up to a cyber headache.
The deal setup
Under the agreement, Deutsche Telekom will add Cloudflare’s security and connectivity tools to its enterprise portfolio, while the two companies directly interconnect their networks. That means Cloudflare gets broader access to Deutsche Telekom’s customer base, and Deutsche Telekom gets to beef up its own enterprise IT offering through T-Systems.
Why investors should squint a little closer
This isn’t just a nice corporate handshake photo op. Cloudflare says the partnership should help it chase a chunk of its giant addressable market by extending its reach across European enterprise customers. The companies also want to develop products around:
- digital sovereignty
- cloud and AI security
- post-quantum cryptography
That’s a pretty clear “the future is scary, and we’d like to sell the locks” strategy.
Bonus plot twist: a new certificate authority
Separately, Cloudflare said it plans to launch a public Certificate Authority and buy Root CA key material from GlobalSign. The new CA is aimed at traditional certificates and post-quantum Merkle Tree Certificates, with production MTC issuance expected in the first quarter of 2027. If this all works, Cloudflare gets another way to monetize the shift toward modern encryption.
Big picture: Cloudflare is trying to become less of a point solution and more of a European enterprise security utility belt. That can be a nice place to be when companies keep buying anything that makes cyber risk slightly less terrifying.
