AI optimism is doing the heavy lifting
Marvell Technology was up about 4% Tuesday, and the vibe here is pretty simple: Wall Street thinks the AI party may have room for one more guest. Bank of America’s Vivek Arya said Marvell could be underestimating its opportunity in custom AI chips, networking gear, and the plumbing that keeps hyperscalers fed.
That matters because chips are basically the picks-and-shovels business of the AI gold rush. If companies keep building bigger AI models, they need more custom silicon, more networking, and more everything else Marvell touches.
The Street is getting louder
BofA reiterated a Buy rating and slapped a $365 price target on the stock, while Piper Sandler started coverage with an Overweight rating and a $270 target. Piper’s pitch is also the same old AI drumbeat: more compute demand, more hyperscaler spending, more reason to believe the chip cycle still has legs.
- BofA sees a bigger custom AI chip opportunity than the market may be pricing in.
- Piper Sandler says hyperscaler capex could keep Marvell’s growth engine humming.
- Marvell’s shares were trading at $262.19 at publication, so yes, Wall Street still has room to argue with itself.
Next stop: analyst day
Investors are now looking ahead to Marvell’s Oct. 6 analyst day, which could be the next catalyst if management offers a sunnier earnings outlook or a bigger market opportunity than expected. In stock-land, analyst day is basically a company’s chance to put on its best PowerPoint blazer and try to convince everyone the future is even more delicious than the present.
The ETF side quest
The story also nodded to ETFs like XNTK, FTXL, and CHPY, which all hold Marvell. That’s relevant mostly because fund flows can nudge the stock around, but the main event here is still the analyst call and the AI narrative.
Big picture: Marvell is riding the same AI wave that’s been floating half the chip market, and Tuesday’s bounce says investors are still willing to pay up for the next chapter.
