The approval was real. The celebration? Not so much.
AbbVie did get the green light for JUVMO, a Parkinson’s drug that can now move from promise to paycheck. But if you were hoping for a victory lap, the stock chart basically shrugged and walked away.
Why the market yawned
Sometimes an FDA approval is like getting the last seat on a flight: useful, but not exactly a parade. The approval is the important part — it gives AbbVie a legitimate path to sell the drug — but investors clearly weren’t convinced it changes the company’s near-term story in a big way.
A few things can explain the flop:
- the market may have already priced in the win
- investors could be looking for bigger revenue drivers than JUVMO alone
- approval is step one; actually turning that into meaningful sales is the harder part
Big picture
For AbbVie, JUVMO is a nice checkmark, not necessarily a moonshot. The drug now has the regulatory stamp it needed, but Wall Street is acting like it wants a much louder catalyst before it starts throwing confetti.
