Q4? Fine. FY27? That’s the real plot twist.
Disney is heading into fiscal Q4 with a pretty decent-looking setup, at least on paper. BofA Securities kept a Buy rating and a $125 price target, saying results should get a boost from “underlying positive trends” and the bonus effect of a 53rd week. Translation: the near-term scoreboard could look better than your average Disney sequel.
The happy stuff still matters
The analyst says global theme park attendance is holding up well, and two new cruise ships should add another layer of support. That’s the kind of steady, boring, cash-generating business investors like when the streaming circus gets noisy.
But not every corner of the House of Mouse is wearing a smile. Entertainment revenue could be soft thanks to disappointing performances from Moana and The Dog Stars, while cost cuts may be less of a pure margin gift and more of a fuel source for Disney’s DTC push.
The real suspense: 2027
Here’s the part investors will probably obsess over: FY27. BofA says the key driver for share performance will be whether Disney can re-accelerate growth, and that setup looks more complicated. A lighter release slate, moderating ARPU tailwinds, and higher content spending all make the year a tougher act to follow.
There are some bright spots, though:
- Sports could get a lift from the NFL Network acquisition and the Super Bowl
- Experiences should still benefit from healthy underlying demand
- Cost savings could give management a bit more flexibility than the bear case assumes
Big picture: Disney doesn’t need a miracle this quarter. It needs a believable sequel for 2027, and that’s where the market is likely to set its popcorn down and pay attention.
