Another GLP-1 flex
Lilly’s latest data dump is basically the pharma version of saying, “Actually, we can do that better.” In a new indirect treatment comparison, Foundayo (orforglipron) 17.2 mg showed greater weight loss and A1C reduction than oral semaglutide 25 mg in adults with type 2 diabetes.
That matters because the GLP-1 market has become a giant sporting event, and every new comparison is another highlight reel clip. If Lilly’s oral pill keeps looking stronger, it bolsters the case that the company can keep grabbing share in diabetes and obesity even without relying only on injectables.
Why investors should care
This isn’t a final, apples-to-apples knockout punch — it’s an indirect comparison, so take the hype with a pinch of salt. But the message is still useful: Lilly is trying to show its pipeline can stack up favorably against one of the biggest names in the category.
For investors, the big question is whether this helps support the company’s long-term growth story, pricing power, and eventually the scale-up of its oral GLP-1 franchise. In other words: can Lilly turn the GLP-1 craze into a bigger, stickier business before competitors catch up?
Big picture
The obesity and diabetes market is turning into a marathon where everyone is also sprinting. Lilly keeps trying to prove it’s not just in the race — it might be setting the pace.
