Starship, but make it valuation fuel
Citi is basically saying the latest Starship progress makes SpaceX’s long-term story a little less fantasy novel, a little more spreadsheet. The firm didn’t hand out a fresh price target here, but the message was loud enough: if Starship keeps moving from explosive spectacle to repeatable rocket platform, the upside math gets a lot more interesting.
Why this matters
A $12 trillion valuation sounds like the kind of number you’d only hear after three espressos and a venture-capital group chat. But that’s the point — Citi is highlighting how much of SpaceX’s future hinges on Starship becoming a real workhorse, not just a very expensive fireworks show.
For investors, that means:
- Starship progress can widen the market’s confidence in SpaceX’s launch economics
- Better reusability could make the company’s revenue engine look a lot bigger over time
- Every successful flight chips away at the “cool demo, unclear business” problem
The big picture
This is still a long-horizon story, not a next-quarter trade. But when Wall Street starts talking about trillion-dollar outcomes with a straighter face, that’s usually a sign the narrative is getting more credible — or at least more caffeinated.
Big picture: SpaceX remains a moonshot, but Starship is the part that keeps turning the moonshot into something investors can actually model.
